Imagine you've just won the lottery... $318-million to be exact. Now imagine you're being held-hostage for half the winnings by two men threatening to kill your loved ones if you speak out. Do you save yourself? Or your family?

Goodreads readers ranked this book a 3.00 and I'd recommend it if you're into:

  • suspenseful story lines

  • hostage-situations

  • poor-to-rich

  • crime

In general, this is just a good read. There's nothing too spectacular, but nothing too bad about it, either. It feels like a rainy-day read when you've seen every other crime-show on television.

Pros: The story itself was unlike what we normally hear with lotto-winners (usually they've spent their millions in a year or two), so it was intriguing. The author did a good job of researching Stockholm Syndrome, and really played it up (and down when necessary) throughout the entire novel. The suspense of wondering who would be murdered (if, or when they would be murdered) due to the unraveling relationship of their secret captors kept the story line progressing, adding suspense and natural curiosity to the already fast-paced second half of the novel. (If you want to learn new words, this is a good one.)

Cons: Each character (literally, each character - including the secondary characters) shared their view point, which became slightly redundant. I could've done with less of the secondary characters, and with less jumping from character-to-character since it could be argued that the story line was skipping moments in time when we went to a new character's perspective.
